Welcome to the Lake Motel! Overlooking Lake Onalaska and located near multiple landings, the Lake Motel is a prime retreat for fishermen and travelers to rest up between outings. Our 9 clean and comfortable rooms each provide a private bathroom, coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, cable TV, and high-speed wireless internet. Our new Fishermen's Cottage sleeps up to 6 and is perfect for groups traveling together with the comforts of a house and the added conveniences of motel services and property amenities.

Our site also offers a grill, picnic area, fish-cleaning room and freezer, free parking, and boat parking/plug-ins.

Fishermen and nature lovers alike will delight in the scenic views and the nearby Great River State Bike Trail while enjoying competitive rates and convenient access to I-90, Highway 53, Kwik Trip, and various restaurants.

The Lake Motel has proudly served the Onalaska community since 1955. In 2023, the motel came under new ownership, and we look forward to continuing the motel’s tradition of excellent service and comfortable convenience while also making plans for future upgrades.

Brittany Knapmiller grew up in a small, tight-knit farming town in Kansas where she learned to work hard, play hard, and cherish time with family. Brittany’s love of connecting with people and delivering exceptional service runs deep and she is thrilled to provide accommodations to visitors of the beautiful Onalaska community.

Meet the Family

Motel Owner in Onalaska, WI

The extended Knapmiller family has called the Coulee Region home since the 1980s. Brittany, her husband Scott, and their four children returned in 2022 and have enjoyed its wonderful community and recreation. Having grown up fishing near the Mississippi, Scott and his brother Mark now captain ice fishing trips, and their brother Chad owns the nearby Schafer Bait and Boat Rentals. In their free time, Brittany and her family spend time hiking, exploring the river and bluffs, and enjoying the beautiful seasons.
